path/ways home

a journey back. untangling stories untold, broken roots. learning knots that don't break. forging a path forwards, welding home from here.

Haiku Hallucinations

a hole in my heart
every morning start afresh
sew it up, and go

Everyday sacred
Do revel in its bounty
The mundane is yours

this week goes to hell
pick it up and throw it out
making space for new

full moon upheaval
let tides carry you ashore
the sand will ground you

full moon speak to me
round as new mammas belly
behold her glory

the light blazing through
woken up at 3 A.M.
let sleeping dogs lie

do you miss the days
when pluto was a planet?
neptune surely does.

Subversively sweet
And militantly tender
With fierce grace, she soars.

Calm your body now.
Impulse control will lead you.
Let your passions shine

The gold ribbons flow
out of arteries and veins.
With death, they release.

The heart is muscle.
She is clenched like a fist, ready.
Try, pry it open!

communication:
words fall into the abyss
lost to inaction.

exercise your brain
haiku hallucinations
sensual seedlings

Think about yourself
like a friend, lover, comrade,
enemy. Make peace.

With Mars in Aries,
aggressive and impulsive,
She will surely fail.

rewind, rewrite:

With Mars in Aries,
motivated / hot headed,
She just might succeed.

rewind, rewrite:

Mars in Aries: with
blind courage / sheer guts,
she will transform you.

bodily bliss

One week without coffee or meat.

I’m onto green, white and herbal tea’s.

Today is day 1 without milk, cheese or butter. Leaving space for whole yogurt. I will see how it feels to be off (most) dairy (I’m giving it at least a week).

Day 6 of daily yoga practice. Muscles are no longer soar so I’m going to bump it up to a mix of Vinyasa and Ashtanga beginning on Monday (I may continue to practice gentle yoga in the mornings, bumping up to 3 hours a day of yoga). Saturday and Sunday I’m hiking the VT mountains.

I have been consuming sugar - not much, but definitely here and there - as well as wheat. Who knows, maybe I’ll be eliminating those in a few weeks. One day at a time.

Goal: bodily bliss.

After next week I’ll be in L.A. for a week and then Sacramento for two weeks so it’s all up to me to keep up the practice. I doubt I’ll be as committed without the guidance of Blissworks, my local yoga studio, but I will try!

Moms studio.

‎When I was in college, a teacher once said that all women live by a ‘rape schedule.’ I was baffled by the term, but as she went on to explain, I got really freaked out. Because I realized that I knew exactly what she was talking about. And you do too. Because of their constant fear of rape (conscious or not), women do things throughout the day to protect themselves. Whether it’s carrying our keys in our hands as we walk home, locking our car doors as soon as we get in, or not walking down certain streets, we take precautions. While taking precautions is certainly not a bad idea, the fact that certain things women do are so ingrained into our daily routines is truly disturbing. It’s essentially like living in a prison - all the time. We can’t assume that we’re safe anywhere: not on the streets, not in our homes. And we’re so used to feeling unsafe that we don’t even see that there’s something seriously fucked up about it.

Today I wrote briefly about the resiliency I’ve built from constantly resisting, and how I was ready to let some love in. Well, this quote here pretty much sums up what’s behind that resistance.

Herbow by Chang Chung-Wei,  Chang Yu-Hui,  Hsu Hao-Po

Herbow is a window planter ‘tray’ that enables people to grow small crops outside their windows while shielding their interior space from the rain. It enlarges the city’s planting area, enhances the view from buildings, and generates renewal.

Herbow is a window shelter concept designed with urban farming and city greening in mind. With it, people can grow herbs and small vegetables in pots beside their windows as if they were planting them in a garden. By swingingHerbow upwards, it becomes a window shelter that blocks the harsh sunlight and the rain. At the same time, the plants are watered and grow naturally.

An eave has been designed to extend over the shelter to stop water falling through the gap between Herbow and the window frame. Holes on two sides of Herbow allow for drainage of excess water. People can conveniently bring the pots inside for decoration or consumption. The city can be a greener landscape with fresher air when everyone grows their own vegetables onHerbow.

heart chakra

I have been resisting love. I learned this in yoga today.

Vinyasa was awesome. Every muscle in my body feels soar and flexed and ready. I spent an hour opening the heart.

I ate an english muffin with gruyere and a pile of pea sprouts for breakfast; green tea and a bowl of chopped cucumber, tomato, hummus & olive oil for an after-yoga snack.

For lunch: chick pea, vegetable stew over brown rice.

I’m going to try to stop resisting so much. I’ve built a lot of resiliency in the process, but I’m ready to let love in (and let love out).

music-making family

One of the greatest parts of having a father, uncle and grandfather who made music is that even though they are gone, I can listen to it whenever I want. And by listening I continue to learn from them. Their wisdom lives on.
